EXPLORE GUTTENBERG

Historic Guttenberg is a small community of 2000 people surrounded by acres of scenic vistas, farmland and the mighty Mississippi River and blessed with activities for all. 

  • Stroll the 2-mile river front park - stop in the DNR Aquarium on River Park Drive to see the myriad of fish, turtles and other reptiles that are native to our area

  • Enjoy the many unique stores and restaurants that call Guttenberg home

  • Guttenberg's playgrounds, ball fields and swimming pool provide hours of fun for all ages

  • Visit Lock & Dam #10.  The historic Lockmaster's house is open May--October or watch and learn as boats, barges and riverboats lock through

  • View the facsimile of the Gutenberg Bible located at the Guttenberg Library - one of 310 sets printing in 1913

FISH OUR RIVERS & CREEKS

Fishing is just one of many outdoor activities.

  • Fish from the banks for the Mississippi or off the Landing 615 fishing barge

  • Numerous trout streams within minutes of us providing hours of fun for all ages.  Trout stream maps is available

  • Launch your boat north or south of the Lock & Dam and ply the backwaters of the Mississippi River

Fishing licenses and gear can be purchased at several Guttenberg businesses

GOLF GUTTENBERG

Take in a round of golf at Guttenberg's 9-hole course.  It's located 2 miles north of Guttenberg on Highway 52 and has breath-taking views of the Mississippi valley - and keep an eye out for eagles, deer, squirrels and other wildlife

CANOE, KAYAK OR TUBE

The Mississippi is just one of the beautiful water ways nearby.  Enjoy relaxing on smaller craft on the Turkey River.  For a little extra excitement, enjoy the new white water park just 18 miles north in Elkader, Iowa.

WINERY & DISTILLERY TOURS

Wineries and distilleries don't automatically come to mind when you think of Iowa - however - there are a growing number of hot spots nearby that are trying to change that.  Promise Land Winery is just 10 miles from Guttenberg.  There is are also hard spirits and beer distillery within 5 miles

EXPLORE NORTH EAST IOWA - BIKE, HIKE OR DRIVE

Take the car ferry across the Mississippi and explore Cassville and other southwestern Wisconsin towns and we’re just a few miles from many other attractions including The Field of Dreams movie site, Pikes Peak State Park, Effigy Mounds National Monument, Dubuque’s National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, Elkader’s antique mall, several casinos and a host of shopping and eating places both to the north and the south.
